Alps to Ocean Cycleway

The Alps to Ocean Cycle Trail section of the NZ Cycleway is a 300km cycle trail from Aoraki/Mt Cook National Park, that will descend 780m with a prevailing tail wind. The trail will start near Mount Cook, pass through the Mackenzie basin down the Waitaki Valley through to Oamaru, with multiple access points at Twizel, Lake Ohau, Lake Tekapo, Mount Cook and Omarama to begin or end the ride. The latter part of the trail goes through an area few people visit now and will introduce cyclists to the beauty of North Otago's downlands.

Twizel To Ohau Village - The Helibike Alternative!

For those who want a bit more variety or excitement on the Alps 2 Ocean Cycleway, our Grand Greta Helibike Trip is an amazing alternative adventure to riding the Twizel to Ohau 3rd day section of the trail. Our 3rd day alternate Helibike Adventure starts from Twizel and ends at the head of the Ohau River at the side of Lake Ohau, about half way along the Twizel to Ohau Village section of the cycle trail. From here you can either continue cycling along to the official Cycleway through to Ohau Village, or we can pick you up and either take you back to Twizel or take you and your luggage on to Ohau Village.
