HELIBIKE TOURS

All our trips start from our office in the Twizel iHub Outdoor Activity and Information Centre. Pickups from your accommodation can be arranged. Prices include helicopter flight and/or 4WD, guide and transport to and from the start and finish points. The helibike trips also include Bike and equipment hire with quality full suspension GT Sanction mountain bikes.

1. Omahau Helibike

Grade: 2 - Easy (Intermediate fitness req'd)
Duration: 3 hours, all year round
Price: $349 per person including bike hire

A great trip for the novice mountain biker. Easy tracks with panoramic views of the Mackenzie Basin and the beautiful Lakes Ohau and Pukaki. Ride the 4WD and farm tracks finishing with an hour long fast and flat ride to Twizel through the Pelennor fields Lord of the Rings film site and an optional swim in the warm Lock Cameron.

2. Grand Greta Helibike

Grade: 3 - Intermediate (Intermediate fitness required)
Duration: 6 Hours, October to May
Price: $449 per person, including bike hire

Our premier trip. Reach the summit of Ben Ohau with amazing 360 degree views over Lake Ohau on one side to Mt Benmore on the other, this feels like you're on top of the world. Bike down rocky farm track with several small stream crossings. The scenery changes from mountain to rocky gorge, through a remnant beech forest and ends up on the shores of the beautiful Lake Ohau. Cycle back to Twizel along a gravel road by the lakeside. Some of the most varied scenery and terrain you'll find on any single New Zealand Helibike experience!

3. Ohau Double Downhill

Grade: 2, Easy
Duration: 3 hours, November to May
Price: $199 per person, including bike hire (older bikes)

Imagine descending a 10 km long downhill mountain bike ride on a flowing, twisty windy gravel road with a vertical descent of 1000m. Then imagine some of the most stunning scenery in New Zealand. Then, to cap it all, you get to do it again!

In this Double Downhill run we shuttle you (by 4WD not helicopter) to the top of the Lake Ohau Ski Field Road and let you ride down at your own pace. We have private access to this road during the summer months so there'll be nothing coming the other way! Bring your own bike or use one of our older models.

4. Alps2Ride High Country Experience

Grade: 2 - Easy (Low fitness required)
Duration: 3.5 hours, November to May
Price: $POA this is dependant on numbers

If you want to get a real feel for the New Zealand High Country but have a limited time, then this trip's for you. This unique half day New Zealand experience includes 3 NZ trips in one. Take a 20 minute helicopter flight with views over stunning scenery including glaciers, Aoraki Mount Cook and turquoise glacial lakes. (The snow landing is no longer available). Then, mountain bike a 600m vertical descent, suitable for any ability, where you can even take an optional swim in one of the pristine tarns (small lakes). 5. Conservation Rides

Grade: 1 - Very easy (Intermediate fitness required)
Duration: 2.5 hours, all year round
Price: $99 per person excluding bike hire

This non-helicopter option is a ride up to the foot of the mountains for mountain bikers who want to help with local conservation projects and learn all about the high country ecology, geology, flora and fauna from an expert and local guide. This option can be added for a lesser charge into some of our Helibike trips to make a full and very satisfying day or can be done as a separate activity. Book Here...
